The Bernoulli equation

Statement

p+12ρv2+ρgh=constant along a streamlinep + \tfrac{1}{2}\rho v^2 + \rho g h = \text{constant along a streamline} — for steady, inviscid, incompressible flow.

Why is it true?

This is energy conservation for a fluid element: pressure, kinetic energy, and potential energy per unit volume sum to a constant if viscous friction is neglected.

Flow through a Venturi tube: where the section narrows, speed rises and static pressure drops. Vary flow rate and viscosity; read the manometer columns.
