Swiss mathematician and physicist, member of the famous Bernoulli family, who founded modern fluid mechanics.
Born into the Bernoulli family with its many brilliant mathematicians, Daniel initially studied medicine at his father's insistence but soon turned to mathematics and physics. His work Hydrodynamica (1738) was the first to use energy conservation to analyze fluid flow, and gave the field of 'hydrodynamics' its name.
