German physicist who discovered the quantitative relationship between voltage, current, and resistance, now called Ohm's law.
Ohm was a high-school teacher when he conducted the experiments leading to the law bearing his name, published in 1827. His work was initially met with indifference from the German scientific establishment, even criticized as 'too abstractly mathematical'. Only after recognition in Britain and elsewhere did he receive a proper professorship, at the University of Munich in 1849.
